1995

  • Project Viva Pilot Study occurs, results are promising
  • Cherished long-time Viva staff member Sheryl Rifas-Shiman suggests the name "Project Viva," all the staff love it
1999
  • 1st pregnant woman is enrolled into Project Viva
  • 1st Viva baby is born
  • Newborn visit begins - 1,703 moms and babies participate in the hospital, 368 over the phone
2001
  • Vivafest is held
  • 6 month visit begins research assistants meet with 1,266 moms and 1,210 babies for measurements, developmental games, blood pressure and interviews
2002
  • Last mom is enrolled into Project Viva - 2,670 women total!
  • 1st Viva child turns 3 years old
2003
  • 1st paper is published using Viva data, showing that pregnant women reduced their fish intake after federal mercury warnings. Many other important scientific results follow.
  • Last Viva baby is born
  • Age 3 visits begin in full swing at the Kenmore and Quincy offices as well as in homes. Research assistants meet with moms and kids for measurements, developmental games, blood pressure, interviews and a blood sample.
2004
  • 89% of all Viva moms complete the age 1 questionnaire!
  • Immune sub-study begins. At this visit, blood is drawn and dust samples are taken from children's bedrooms.
  • 1st age 4 questionnaire sent - questions are asked about mom and child health, diet and environment
2005
  • 91% of all Viva moms complete the age 2 questionnaire!
  • 1st age 5 questionnaire sent - questions are asked about mom and child health, diet and environment
2006
  • Age 3 visit completed!
  • 1st age 6 questionnaire sent - questions are asked about mom and child health, diet and environment
2007
  • Age 7 in-person visit begins - stay tuned for more information!
