A Note from the Principal Investigator
          - Matthew W. Gillman, MD

Wow, a lot has happened in the past year! Since I last wrote an update for this website, October 2006, Project Viva has received another large grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This grant goes through 2011 and allows us to collect additional information at the Age 7 Visit. It is because of your continued participation that we successfully secure funding from the NIH. All of us at Project Viva cannot thank you enough for staying with us year after year.

As we mentioned in the Spring/Summer 2007 edition of Viva Views (click here to see) we have started the Age 7 Visit. Our research staff who were here for the Age 3 Visit enjoy seeing the difference 4 years makes in a child's development. We also have many new research staff - click here to learn more about them.

We hope that you and your child find our staff professional, customer service focused, and fun. We want Viva kids to be engaged at the visits and to feel special since they are a part of Project Viva. We welcome your ideas as to how to make the visit as enjoyable as possible.

One other reminder - in the "between" years, when we are not seeing you and your child in person, we ask you to fill out questionnaires that we mail to you. So if your child is 5 or 6, or now even turning 8, please look for these surveys, fill them out, and mail them back.

For the future, we are looking into giving you the option of doing questionnaires by internet. More information to come!

As always, please contact us if you have any questions about Project Viva or the topics we are studying. We also welcome suggestions for how to make the project even better. As we continue to be successful in getting federal and other grants, we ask you and your family to grow with us into the future! Many thanks again for your ongoing participation.

November 2007

We want to hear from you......
